2024 Artwork by Andrew Kleindolph

Bringing together a group of Bay Area based artists working in diverse and disparate materials, this exhibition looks at the commonality that ties these artists to each other: their works' materiality.

Materiality is an integral part of what gives these artist's work meaning; a representation of concepts and ideas that bring their vision to life. Whether through the found objects and materials used by Pouyanfar to describe the displacement and destruction from her native Iran, to the industrial materials and circuitry that reference technology and metaphysics of Kleindolph. The artists are united in their material language. They have given their work meaning through the moments of experimentation, time and knowledge and as the visual representation of ideas. In Tiffanie Turner’s soft decaying paper flowers, she has learned to breathe life into the Italian crepe paper that makes up each flower. In Amy Nathan’s exploration of gender and power in her work, her use of rubber and latex are signifiers of sexuality and dominance. TWFive are a collective whose work in hand cut vinyl delves into meditation on contemporary culture. The individual pieces that make up the hole is the embodiment of their works' philosophy, that each part of contemporary society contributes to the bigger picture.
